The Wells Fargo Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship for those enrolled in college planning and financial management through the CollegeSTEPS program.

   On May 27 at 6:30 p.m., the Senior Awards Night was held on campus. Many seniors were presented with scholarships, awards and honors in recognition of their contributions to Orange High School and the community. There were other highlights that reminded viewers that HSE is still home to the Panthers, years after graduation.

    To kick off the night, Principal Jason Johnson said a few words after seating the seniors. The party included a musical performance by veteran madrigals. Senior Jordan Toney led a group of five students in a performance of Dierks Bentley’s “Home.”

    After the music performance, the community leaders came and announced the seniors who received the scholarship. Joe Piscitelli, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Adam Gates Laurie James Freeland from the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and Lindsay Marie Keeter from Human Resources Government.

    A particularly important part of the night for the HSE graduating class was when Casey Chamberlain’s parents presented her with a scholarship. Chamberlain’s mother, Angie Hurdle, posted the sign to remind seniors to be safe wherever they go. The scholarship has recently become open to all athletes. The scholarship recipients are Nicholas Gentile, Keegan Crabtree, Adam Gates, Colleen Pope, Kaneisha Pettiford and Mackenzie Cates.

    Other groups included members of the Beta Club, Link Crew, and the Student Government Association.

For AG Day on Friday, October 4th, the best attire is pink and camo. This theme is in memory of Casey Chamberlain and Chase Underhill who passed away this past school year. Both are part of the AG category. The winner of the Girl in Pink Day was senior Mackenzie Almers and the second runner-up was sophomore Jessie Foushi. They qualified for the second round on Tuesday, October 8.

Athletic Boosters are one of the clubs that buy new merchandise. They sell popcorn, nachos and drinks. The Peace Club wears bracelets, colored shirts and purses. The Virtual Psychology Club hosts a tennis toss game. SGA sells frozen steaks. Other clubs will have booths with face painting and games.

The girls’ basketball team is selling soda and bottled water. Laurie Shoffner and the Ladies of Style and Distinction Club will be selling baked goods. The Exchange Club sells mini pumpkins and ghost and monster candles.

Students Kasi Chamberlain and Chase Underhill celebrate in pink and fashion dresses. There will also be booths selling raffle tickets, refreshments and baked goods to raise money for the Casey Chamberlain and Chase Underhill Scholarship Fund.

Casey Lynn Chamberlain, 16, an HSE junior, died Saturday in a car accident. He was an active student at Orange School and participated in many extracurricular activities. Casey’s friends describe her as kind, hardworking, caring, sarcastic, selfless and friendly.

He studied US history, chemistry, agriculture and Spanish. Chamberlain is a member of the HSE
