Answer: No. The changes to the law prohibit your student from applying to more than one private school or parent-run scholarship at a time. You can apply for a new scholarship after a scholarship has been denied or denied. A: Yes, as long as your student attends a public school other than the school they are affiliated with, you may be eligible for one K-8 transportation grant for your household.
Question: My student is studying in a private kindergarten or a private kindergarten. Can I still get a New Worlds scholarship account?
A: If your student attends private preschool or day care through the Florida Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program, then you are eligible to apply for a New Worlds scholarship account if you meet the other requirements. You cannot receive a New Worlds scholarship if you use any other scholarship to pay for pre-K.

Q: How do I prove that my student has a significant deficit in math or literacy to be eligible for the New World Scholarship?
A. Your student’s eligibility will be determined based on a recent progress monitoring report or most recent English Language Arts (ELA) scores, or if their student has been found to have signs of dyslexia or dyscalculia.
A. The scholarship is worth $1,200 per student for 2024-25. The scholarships for the 2023-24 school year, which will continue to be awarded until September, will remain at $500.

Reading and math skills are fundamental to academic success at a young age. Students who struggle early in their academic careers may continue to struggle to reach their full educational potential. New Worlds Scholarship Accounts enable early intervention to support student progress.
The program benefits VPK and K-5 public school students by providing a Family Savings Account (ESA). Families can use these ESAs to pay for programs and materials designed to improve reading and math skills. The amount of the scholarship varies depending on the academic year for which the student is awarded.
When funds are available, New Worlds Scholarship Accounts are available to students enrolled in a Florida public school in grades K-5 who:

Note: Beginning with the 24-25 school year, families will no longer be required to submit an education reimbursement claim in accordance with Florida law.
New Hampshire State Guide
New Worlds Reading is a free home reading program in Florida that sends eligible children a free book and activity each month during the school year through fifth grade. Families can choose which books they receive when they sign up, and expand their home library based on their child’s interests to foster a lifelong love of reading. Literacy resources and related activities help children strengthen their skills and build confidence in reading.
Reading New Worlds is administered by the UF Lastinger Center for Learning. Book titles are selected in partnership with Scholastic and approved by the Florida Department of Education. Books and materials are available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Braille.
To be eligible, students must be in a VPK program and not progressing age-appropriately according to state assessments, or be K-5 in a public or charter school and not yet reading at grade level.
To avoid upfront costs, New Worlds scholarship families can choose one of Step Up For Students’ direct payment options. Our direct payment options include part-time tutors, after-school and summer reading programs, and purchasing pre-approved items through EMA.

Note: New Worlds 2023-24 scholarship families may also choose to pay out-of-pocket for approved goods and services. The refund request for the 2023-24 school year must be submitted to EMA with all necessary documents by September 30, 2024 in order to be processed.
New Worlds scholarship families can choose one of Step Up For Students’ direct payment options. Our direct payment options include part-time tutors, after-school and summer reading programs, and purchasing pre-approved items through EMA.
Note: FL House Bill 1361 states that families will not be able to apply for tuition reimbursement in the 24-25 school year.

Step Up For Students works with the State of Florida to fund New Worlds scholarship accounts once students are deemed eligible. This process can take several weeks. Step Up will send scholarship funding updates to the email address associated with your EMA account. You can also log into EMA to check the status of your application at any time. New Worlds Reading is a free home literacy program in Florida designed to help VPK-eligible 5th grade students in Florida strengthen literacy, build confidence in reading and foster a lifelong love of reading. Each month, eligible children receive a free book tailored to their interests that caregivers and children can use together. Reading New Worlds was created by the Florida Legislature and is administered by the UF Center For learning.Book titles are selected in partnership with the Florida Department of Education.Books and materials are available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Braille.
Families of children enrolled in Reading New Worlds receive engaging resources, activities and guides to support shared reading experiences and strengthen language interactions. This program is completely free for families, and once enrolled, students will remain eligible for the program until they reach sixth grade.
