Public and charter school students in kindergarten through fifth grade may qualify based on the following criteria:

Kindergarten – Grade 3: Any student determined to have a significant reading deficit if any of the following criteria are met in accordance with Rule 6A-6.053 § 12:

The student achieves the lowest level/benchmark set by the publisher during the universal testing period, based on the assessment outlined in the district’s approved K-12 comprehensive evidence-based reading plan;

The student achieves the lowest level/measure determined by the publisher during the progress report at any time during the school year based on the assessment outlined in the evidence-based comprehensive reading plan approved by the K-12 district; or

The student has demonstrated, through repeated formative assessments or teacher observation data, minimum skill levels for reading competence in one or more areas of phonological awareness; phonics; vocabulary including oral language skills; reading fluency; and reading comprehension.

Grades 4-5: Any student who scored at Level 1 or Level 2 on the Florida English Language Arts Standards Assessment in the previous school year or meets any of the three criteria above for a significant reading deficit.

Our team uses a variety of materials and tools to facilitate the academic, social and communication progress of our students. You may already have some of these resources in your own home. Your help in this regard is greatly appreciated and appreciated!

“As the principal and founder of Villa Preparatory Academy, a non-profit private school, I adopted a similar system and requirements to Miami-Dade County Public Schools, but included accommodations to meet the needs of our school population. Thanks to the flexibility of the private school, our students receive the same quality education as public school students, but in a private school environment. At VPA, students are not just a number. Every student in our school knows that they are part of a family and that they have a team they can rely on.” I am active duty military and currently live out of state but am assigned to a base in Florida and plan to relocate soon. Are my children entitled to a scholarship?

Oh yeah. If you are on active duty and have received a permanent transfer to Florida, you will be eligible for the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Opportunities (FES-EO), the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA), the Personalized Education Program (PEP ) or the Florida Tax Credit (FTC) scholarship before you move. You can apply with your primary address or your new Florida home address (if you have one) and upload permanent change of station documents with your application.

New Worlds Reading Initiative

Answer: No. Law changes prohibit your student from applying to more than one parent-run private school or scholarship at the same time. You can apply for a new scholarship after a scholarship has been denied or declined. However, if your student is eligible, you can apply for both the Transportation Scholarship and the New Worlds Scholarship Account.

Q: My student attended a private school with a scholarship, but now we attend a public school. What happened to my scholarship? Am I entitled to anything else?

A: If you had an FTC, FES-EO, FES-UA, PEP, or Hope scholarship and enrolled in a public school, your scholarship will end and any remaining funds will be returned to the state. As a public school student, you may be eligible for a New Worlds scholarship account or a transportation scholarship.

Question: I was awarded an FES-EO or FTC scholarship for my student, but now we want an FES-UA scholarship instead. How can I apply?

Q: My student has a New Worlds scholarship account and attends public school regularly. Can I also apply for the new K-8 Transportation Scholarship?

A: Yes, as long as your student attends a public school other than the school to which they are assigned, you may be eligible for one K-8 transportation scholarship for your household.

Question: My student attends a private kindergarten or a private kindergarten. Can I still get a New Worlds scholarship account?

A: If your student attends a private preschool or private kindergarten through the Florida Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program, then you are eligible to apply for a New Worlds scholarship account if you meet the other requirements. Q: How can I prove that my student has a significant deficit in math or literacy in order to qualify for the New World Scholarship?

A. Your student’s eligibility will be determined based on a recent progress report or their most recent English Language Arts (ELA) scores, or if their student has been found to have signs of dyslexia or dyscalculia.
